On August 14, 2008, President Bush signed into law the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008. The law sets strict limits for lead in paint and for lead content in children's products, makes it illegal to sell recalled products, and also permanently prohibits three types of phthalates in certain toys and child care products. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has released a Handbook for Resale Stores and Product Resellers to help retailers understand the new law and existing regulations.
